Provides pharmaceuticals and drug information as needed for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. This role involves compounding pharmaceutical preparations, labeling and packaging medications, and assisting with or supervising IV preparation. The pharmacist will advise patients and medical staff on medication usage, dosage, side effects, and interactions. They will also ensure proper control and record-keeping of narcotics and controlled substances, monitor drug therapy to resolve potential problems, and provide clinical pharmacy services. Additionally, the role includes administering immunizations and reviewing patient profiles for immunization recommendations. Common expectations include demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the patient lifespan, assessing and interpreting age-specific data, and providing direct patient care. A commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety is paramount, involving compliance with safety regulations, error reduction, reporting of errors and hazardous conditions, and participation in safety education. Maintaining policies, procedures, and quality standards, as well as pursuing professional growth, are also key aspects of the role. The pharmacist is expected to provide outstanding customer service, foster teamwork, and practice fiscal responsibility.
