About The Position

The Outpatient Oncology Dietitian assesses and monitors the nutritional status of patients/clients, adjusting nutritional care as indicated. This role provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT)/counseling, including assessment, education, and development of MNT plans. The dietitian collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition into the overall patient care plan. Responsibilities include timely and thorough documentation of nutritional care plans, assessments, consultations, and patient education. The position also involves developing and evaluating educational materials, identifying learner needs, and assessing the effectiveness of patient/family education. Additionally, the dietitian may provide periodic in-services, assist in the training of team members and dietetic interns, and disseminate nutrition research findings. Communication with multidisciplinary departments regarding patient care and performance feedback is also a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (by the Commission of Dietetic Registration) and licensed by affiliated state board as applicable OR successful completion of the Registered Dietitian exam and must be registered and licensed within 6 months of employment required.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or related field if CDR registration eligibility is obtained prior to January 1, 2024, or minimum of master’s degree if initial CDR registration is obtained on or after January 1, 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and monitors nutritional status of patients/clients and adjusts nutritional care as indicated.
  • Provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT)/counseling including assessment and education, developing, monitoring, and implementing MNT/counseling for patients/clients in assigned areas.
  • Completes consults and referrals as received.
  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, and others to coordinate nutrition into a total patient/client therapy program.
  • Completes all required documentation including nutritional care plan, assessments, consultations, nutrient intake analyses and patient/client education in all required documentation tools in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
  • Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient/client and family education.
  • Develops, evaluates, and utilizes appropriate education materials.
  • Identifies learning needs using methods appropriate to each learner's developmental and educational level; evaluates and documents learner response to teaching.
  • Provides/develops periodic in-services on selected topics to team members and other disciplines as requested.
  • Teaches and disseminates results and findings of nutrition research to medical team members, nursing, pharmacy, patients, and public.
  • Communicates with multidisciplinary departments on patient/client care and issues, including performance feedback on personnel when requested or applicable to ensure standards of excellence are met for customer satisfaction.
