About The Position

The Outpatient Clinical Director provides clinical leadership and oversight for all outpatient services, including supervision of therapists and development and implementation of outpatient programming. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and compliant clinical care in alignment with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. The Outpatient Clinical Director partners closely with the Program Director to ensure seamless integration of clinical services and operations, supporting effective program performance, client outcomes, and continuity of care.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required
Current, active clinical licensure in the state of California required (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or equivalent)
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in substance use treatment, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role
Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and ASAM criteria across levels of care
Working knowledge of DHCS and Joint Commission standards and clinical documentation requirements
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and supervise clinical teams
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and clinical documentation practices
Successful completion of background check, drug test, physical, and TB screening
Valid driver's license and insurability under the company’s automobile insurance policy

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision, guidance, and oversight to outpatient therapists and clinical staff
Ensure the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of individual, group, and family therapy services
Oversee treatment planning, clinical documentation, and discharge processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and clinical appropriateness
Support appropriate level-of-care determinations and clinical decision-making
Develop, implement, and continuously improve outpatient programming and curriculum
Ensure programming aligns with evidence-based practices and applicable level-of-care standards (e.g., ASAM criteria)
Monitor group facilitation quality and therapist effectiveness, providing feedback and coaching as needed
Ensure clinical compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies, including DHCS, CARF, and Joint Commission standards
Conduct regular chart audits and clinical reviews to maintain documentation quality and audit readiness
Address deficiencies in documentation, timeliness, and clinical practice through training and corrective action
Support implementation and monitoring of performance improvement initiatives
Provide ongoing clinical supervision, mentorship, and professional development to therapists and clinical staff
Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed in collaboration with HR
Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of clinical team members
Promote a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
Partner with the Program Director and Residential Clinical Director to align clinical services with operational workflows and program goals
Collaborate with Admissions, Nursing, Medical, and other departments to ensure coordinated and integrated care
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, case consultations, and utilization reviews
Support continuity of care across levels of service, including step-down and discharge planning
