Schedule & Coverage: Per Diem, 7:00AM-3:30PM, Working between Corning and Bath locations, 1-2 Days a week Position Summary: General clerical functions to include (but not limited to): receiving, screening and processing of phone calls and/or patients/visitors. Coordination and filing of records and reports; performs duties involving the operation of equipment necessary in developing x-ray film, financial or medical necessity checking and review, updating various financial documents or forms, including charge entry, and assists in other non-technical departmental duties as assigned. Various computer functions including (but not limited to): EPIC, PACS, and multiple Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Percentage of time spent on each component directly depends on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Proficiency with computer office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
  • Must possess an abiding commitment to basic ethical and legal principles, including familiarity with HIPAA and protected health information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all customers in order to interact effectively with employees, patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Competency in keyboarding with the ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
  • Previous hospital or medical office experience required, preferably in a hospital laboratory or radiology setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-high school work in the secretarial sciences is desirable.
  • A medical terminology course preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving, screening and processing of phone calls and/or patients/visitors.
  • Coordination and filing of records and reports.
  • Performs duties involving the operation of equipment necessary in developing x-ray film.
  • Financial or medical necessity checking and review.
  • Updating various financial documents or forms, including charge entry.
  • Assists in other non-technical departmental duties as assigned.
  • Various computer functions including EPIC, PACS, and multiple Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Communicates and demonstrates a professional image and attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers, and others.
  • Adheres to applicable dress code.
  • Adjusts personal schedule to meet unit needs when requested.
  • Protects patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Communicates professionally with various audiences as evidenced by customer/client satisfaction.
  • Provides patient and family education on specific requirements of procedures and/or tests.
  • Adheres to policies and practices of applicable entity facilities and Corning Hospital Laboratory & Radiology Department-specific policies while remaining familiar with and acting according to applicable professional codes, the employee handbook, unit policies and procedures, and hospital policies.
  • Participates in department meetings by attending and offering ideas and solutions in problem-solving situations and activities regarding the program.
  • Completes assigned tasks and other duties as requested.
  • Coordinates file management processes involving all modalities within the Radiology Department. This includes, but is not limited to, scanning, purging, digitizing, importing images, burning CDs, and transporting films/CDs.
  • Schedules patients within the Radiology and Laboratory Departments, including viewing and printing schedules.
  • Responsible for preparing and distributing all mail and correspondence for the outpatient Laboratory and Radiology Departments.
  • Maintains daily laboratory order files and follows up on standing orders, oral requests, advance requests, and missing information, including diagnoses and/or signatures.
  • Responsible for daily departmental functions such as faxing, filing, scanning, copying, and answering/directing phone calls.
  • Coordinates and files records and reports for the Radiology and Laboratory Departments.
  • Works closely with Radiology and Laboratory staff, pathologists, and radiologists to maintain departmental workflow.
  • May be required to work holidays, weekends, and shifts other than those regularly assigned.
