The Outpatient Cardiology Sonographer will be proficient in operating ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular, and/or cardiac procedures. This role involves accurately differentiating between normal and pathological findings, reviewing patient medical records for clinical information, and obtaining necessary clinical information from patients. The Sonographer will compare requisitions to physician orders to ensure exam accuracy, position patients, and select appropriate equipment and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures. They will adjust factors to attain appropriate images, ensure patient safety and comfort, and use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as needed. The position requires accurate labeling of images, maintaining records in accordance with regulatory agencies, entering patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documenting billing codes. The Sonographer will also identify equipment performance issues, evaluate new products, analyze sonograms, synthesize information, and communicate findings to physicians. Additionally, they will serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
