The Outpatient Cardiology Sonographer will proficiently operate ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular, and/or cardiac procedures/studies. This role involves accurately differentiating between normal and pathological findings, reviewing patient medical records for clinical information, and obtaining necessary clinical information from patients. The Sonographer will position patients, select proper transducers and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures, and adjust factors to attain appropriate images, ensuring patient safety and comfort. They will use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. The position requires accurate labeling of images, maintaining records in accordance with regulatory agencies, entering patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documenting billing codes. The Sonographer will also identify equipment performance issues, communicate them to appropriate staff, and evaluate new products and equipment. They will analyze sonograms, synthesize information, and communicate findings to physicians. Additionally, this role serves as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the life span.
