About The Position

The Pegasus School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher assistant to work in our Outdoor Classroom. This role supports the Environmental Learning and Sustainability Coordinator, who serves as the lead teacher. Substitute Teacher Assistants collaborate with teachers and staff to foster a positive, engaging, and organized learning environment. Responsibilities may include assisting with classroom instruction, working with individual students or small groups, preparing and organizing classroom materials, and guiding students through daily routines. Additionally, they provide active supervision during non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal. Success in this role requires flexibility, dependability, the ability to follow directions, and a capacity to quickly adapt to established classroom routines and expectations, as substitutes may work with various teachers, students, and grade levels.

Requirements

  • Possession of a minimum of 12 ECE credits.
  • Experience working with school-age children in a school, camp, childcare, recreation, tutoring, or similar setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, employees, and families.
  • Dependability, punctuality, flexibility.
  • Ability to meet all School and state requirements for employment, including required background clearance and applicable health and safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a school or classroom environment, particularly with elementary or early childhood students.
  • Experience supporting classroom instruction, small-group learning, or individual students.
  • College coursework or a degree in education, child development, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with a range of learning needs and abilities.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities
