As a part-time Outbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment and assist in recouping damaged freight. Duties include preparing, sweeping, inspecting, and cleaning trailers before loading; using safe lifting techniques; and selecting appropriate freight-handling equipment to move, arrange, and load or unload freight. Equipment may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers. You will weigh and dimension shipments for proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling; plan cube utilization and weight distribution; count and inspect freight and document shortages or damage; review freight bills and manifests for special instructions, exceptions, labels, and destination codes; and check headloads against freight bills. When handling hazardous materials, you will verify product descriptions, identify paperwork discrepancies, and confirm proper placarding. You will also block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
