As a part-time Outbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment and assist with recouping damaged freight. You will prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight; use safe lifting techniques; and select appropriate freight-handling equipment to move and arrange freight. Equipment may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers. The role also involves weighing and measuring shipments for proper classification, rating, and safe handling; planning trailer cube utilization and weight distribution; counting and inspecting freight and documenting shortages or damage; and reviewing freight bills and manifests for instructions, exceptions, labels, and destination codes. When handling hazardous materials, you will verify product descriptions and paperwork, identify discrepancies, and confirm proper placarding. You will also block and brace freight to prevent it from shifting in transit.
