About The Position

As a full-time Outbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment and assist in recouping damaged freight. You will prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading. The role involves weighing and dimensioning shipments, planning cube utilization and weight distribution, inspecting and documenting freight condition, and following shipping documentation and handling instructions. You will also verify hazardous-material descriptions and paperwork, check required placarding, and block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.

Requirements

• Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check and an alcohol and drug test.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience as a Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler preferred.
• Previously held Forklift Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, and assist in recouping damaged freight.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight.
• Use safe lifting techniques to load and unload freight.
• Select and use appropriate freight-handling equipment, which may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers.
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling.
• Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight.
• Count and inspect freight, documenting shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills for special instructions.
• Check manifests for existing exceptions and compare labels and destination codes against freight bills.
• Check special instructions and weight distributions on headloads, and compare headloads against freight bills when loading.
• Verify hazardous-material product descriptions, identify paperwork discrepancies, and verify proper placarding when loading hazardous material.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
