As a full-time Outbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment and assist in recouping damaged freight. You will prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight. You will use safe lifting techniques and appropriate freight-handling equipment to move, load, arrange, rearrange, and unload freight. Equipment may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers. The role includes weighing and dimensioning shipments to ensure proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling; planning cube utilization and weight distribution; and counting and inspecting freight while documenting shortages or damage. You will review freight bills for special instructions, check manifests for existing exceptions, and compare labels and destination codes on manifests against freight bills. When loading, you will check special instructions and headload weight distributions, and compare headloads against freight bills. For hazardous materials, you will verify product descriptions, identify paperwork discrepancies, and confirm proper placarding. You will properly block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
