About The Position

Ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electrical transmission system by planning, scheduling, and developing switching procedures to support physical work for capital construction and equipment maintenance efforts. This role involves creating detailed switching steps, coordinating with various stakeholders, developing plans for equipment isolation and protective tagging, and minimizing equipment shutdowns through long-term outage scheduling. The Senior-Level position includes additional responsibilities such as developing action plans for equipment protection, evaluating outage sequences, identifying workflow improvements, and training intermediate-level coordinators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience/education; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to analyze complex workflows, work independently, and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn and use applications such as Asset Sentry, Transmission Management System (TMS), and Transmission Outage Application (TOA).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; ITC does not sponsor employment visas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Outage Coordinator, Transmission System Coordinator, or equivalent field experience (e.g., Substation Operator) (Intermediate Level).
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Shutdown Coordinator, Transmission System Coordinator, or equivalent (Senior Level).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience writing switching and tagging instructions (Senior Level).
  • Basic understanding of Asset Sentry, TMS, and TOA systems (Senior Level).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ITC’s switching and tagging processes preferred (Intermediate Level).

Responsibilities

  • Creates detailed switching steps for implementation by Transmission System Coordinators (TSCs) for safe and reliable shutdown of transmission facilities.
  • Coordinates with Interconnected companies, Stakeholder Relations and Project Management to ensure switching and tagging rules are followed and project objectives are met.
  • Develops plans for proper equipment isolation and protective tagging to ensure safe working conditions for field personnel.
  • Creates equipment outage requests and plan switching/tagging for scheduled work.
  • Maintains and expands knowledge of the transmission system through study, seminars, simulations, and field visits.
  • Collaborates with Project Management and Field Supervisors to coordinate equipment outages for system changes and upgrades.
  • Minimizes equipment shutdowns by developing long-term outage schedules for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Coordinates outages impacting generation output with generation operators and independent power producers (IPPs).
  • Develops action plans to protect electrical equipment, property, and service in collaboration with Operations Engineering (Senior Level).
  • Evaluates and provides direction on outage sequences and durations (Senior Level).
  • Identifies and implements workflow process improvements (Senior Level).
  • Assists in training and mentoring Intermediate-level Outage Coordinators (Senior Level).
