About The Position

The Out-of-School Time (OST) Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising YMCA school-aged programs during the academic year. This includes vacation camps on school holidays, early dismissal days, and other out-of-school times. The OST Coordinator ensures a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that promotes youth development and aligns with the YMCA’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1–2 years experience working in licensed school-age childcare or youth programming
  • Must meet state licensing requirements (background check, certifications, etc.)
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain within 30 days

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or a related field preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise full-day vacation camps during school holidays, snow days, and in-service days. (typically ages 5–12)
  • Develop age-appropriate, engaging activities in areas such as arts & crafts, STEM, active play, and character development
  • Maintain a structured daily schedule that supports consistency, fun, and positive behavior
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all children in the program
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and supervise staff performance
  • Handle incidents and behavioral challenges professionally and in alignment with YMCA policies
  • Maintain accurate attendance, emergency contact information, and incident documentation
  • Train, schedule, and supervise part-time OST staff, volunteers, and program aides
  • Support professional development and mentoring of staff team
  • Model YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding program updates, behavior concerns, and highlights
  • Serve as a liaison with school personnel as needed to support student needs and logistics
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all families and children
  • Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, YMCA standards, and health/safety protocols
  • Track registrations, payments, attendance, and meal/snack distribution (if applicable)
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining program supplies
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts to increase enrollment
