About The Position

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Out of School Time & Camp Program Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations and personnel of the After School Program. Coordinator will also manage Schools Out Programming and serve as a Summer Camp Assistant Director. Employee will possess a strong interpersonal and communication skills, understanding of child development and safety, and ability to manage multiple staff, activities and functions aligned with the mission of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club program policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A degree in child development, recreation management or similar field, or comparable experience in youth development.
  • Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Multi-tasking in a distracting, active-youth oriented environment.
  • Clear understanding and possession of cultural competency.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Customer Service Experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain files, records, spread sheets and data base and to make mathematical calculations using a calculator.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and issues with some interruption, pressure and changing priorities.
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks over long periods of time and the ability to remember information that has been read, studied or previously learned.
  • Ability to use knowledge and reasoning to solve problems.
  • Ability to work with children and teenagers in a Boys & Girls Club setting with frequent distractions.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-profit experience as a staff member or volunteer is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for designing and implementing daily After School Program schedule and weekly/monthly activities in coordination with objectives outlined by Senior Program Director and Program Director.
  • Supervises staff of After School Program, Schools Out and Camp.
  • Maintains accurate records of ASP staff schedules, program space use and member participation.
  • Maintains accurate records of ASP participants as required.
  • Ensures a safe Clubhouse and premises for all members, ASP staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Implements balance of sports, fitness, arts, STEM and leadership activities into ASP programming.
  • Oversees class content, staff and participants in other programs during after school time.
  • Assist in evaluating and training After School Program staff performance; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding member needs and issues.
  • Serve as primary first aid provider during after school time.
  • Provides front desk supervision and leadership of ASP groups as needed.
  • Serves as liaison between program staff and Program Directors, Custodian.
  • Assists in implementing membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.
  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Coordinates with Program Directors on program specifics and registration details.
  • Assists in Club fundraising activities and special events.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and/or related trainings.
