About The Position

Sigma Technologies is seeking an OSP Field Designer to support telecommunications projects through a combination of field data collection, route verification, drafting, and design. The role initially supports projects in Northern Louisiana and Central Arkansas, including the Shreveport, Louisiana, and Little Rock, Arkansas, areas. Assigned work areas may change as project needs evolve, and the position requires travel outside the initial areas, including overnight travel when required. When not collecting field data, the position works remotely. Regular local fieldwork is required, and travel may account for 50%–75% of the work. The employee must use a personal vehicle; mileage is reimbursed, and Sigma covers hotel costs and provides daily per diem for required overnight stays. New hires must attend a paid, two-week, in-person onboarding and training program at the company’s headquarters in Perrysburg, Ohio. The position requires availability during core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern, with flexibility for fieldwork, travel, project demands, and occasional overtime. A valid driver’s license, valid insurance, and dependable transportation are required. The designer conducts OSP fiber fieldwork and creates design and construction deliverables using field observations, CAD, GIS, customer software, and design standards. The work covers telecommunications infrastructure and projects including FTTx, aerial and underground fiber, and joint-use. The role collaborates with project and field teams and supports related applications, project documentation, and work order processes. Sigma describes itself as an engineering and design firm serving the power and telecommunications industries, with work supporting utility, broadband, and infrastructure projects across the country.

  • Experience performing field data collection, field walkouts, or field verification specifically to support OSP fiber design work.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design tools.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering schematics, maps, field notes, construction drawings, design standards, and customer specifications.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction, OSP design practices, planning procedures, field documentation requirements, and design deliverable standards.
  • Ability to learn and operate customer proprietary software, GIS tools, and other computer systems used to support the work order process.
  • Technical knowledge, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and ability to translate field conditions into accurate design deliverables.
