About The Position

Sankofa Montessori, a public charter school established in 2021 and opened in July 2023, is seeking an Orton-Gillingham Reading Interventionist for the 2026-2027 school year. The school currently serves Kindergarten through 4th grade, with plans to add 5th grade in the upcoming school year. Sankofa Montessori blends standards-based instruction with the Montessori approach to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and agency for purposeful lives. The Orton-Gillingham Reading Interventionist will provide instructional coaching, literacy intervention support, assessment oversight, and data analysis within the school's literacy framework. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality implementation of Orton-Gillingham intervention and overseeing DIBELS 8th Edition assessments. The Interventionist will collaborate with co-guides and leadership to enhance literacy instruction, track student progress, and improve reading outcomes for students in grades K-5.

Requirements

  • Current Orton-Gillingham Certification from an accredited training organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
  • Experience administering and interpreting DIBELS 8th Edition assessments.
  • Experience coaching educators and providing instructional feedback.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with instructional staff and school leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a minimum of 20 hours of service per month.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction.
  • Provide weekly coaching and instructional feedback to three co-guides implementing Orton-Gillingham intervention (K-5).
  • Support co-guides in strengthening instructional delivery, intervention fidelity, and student outcomes.
  • Document coaching feedback in the Bullseye platform.
  • Conduct bi-weekly observations of Orton-Gillingham intervention implementation for each co-guide.
  • Monitor fidelity to the Orton-Gillingham instructional model, instructional delivery, pacing, and student engagement.
  • Provide timely written feedback and recommendations after observations.
  • Provide leadership for DIBELS 8th Edition assessment windows (BOY, MOY, EOY), including training staff, monitoring fidelity, providing support, and analyzing/disseminating reports.
  • Prepare and submit Orton-Gillingham progress-monitoring reports every nine weeks, summarizing student progress, growth trends, intervention effectiveness, and recommendations.
  • Prepare and submit Orton-Gillingham reports to the Sankofa Montessori Leadership Team for BOY, MOY, and EOY, including student performance data, implementation updates, growth trends, and recommendations.
  • Facilitate a weekly one-hour Orton-Gillingham Collaborative Team Meeting with the three instructional co-guides, including student data review, instructional planning, problem-solving, calibration, and professional learning.
