About The Position

Our patients are our number one priority! We're committed to giving children back their childhood! This role involves fabricating orthoses or prostheses as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with the department's scope of practice. The technician will create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, and perform cutout, grinding, and smoothing of plastic for devices. They will also contour, drill, and polish metal work, add closures, sew materials, and assist practitioners on a PRN basis. Additional duties include fitting patients with shoes or fabricating shoe lifts, tracking and ordering materials for inventory, managing equipment, and caring for infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age patients. The role requires interfacing with clinical and lab staff to produce advanced and functional O&P devices, contributing to the training of residents and students, and performing all duties of a production assistant as needed.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Certificate from an ABC recognized O&P school, or a minimum of one year’s applicable technical experience required.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses or prostheses as directed by the lab supervisor.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates orthoses or prosthesis as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with department scope of practice.

  • Contour, drill, polish metal work for devices and add closures as requested.
  • Sewing materials as required.
  • Assist practitioners on a PRN basis as needed.
  • Fit patients with shoes or fabricate shoe lifts.
  • Track and order materials for inventory and manage equipment.
  • Cares for and comes in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age patients.
  • Interface with all clinical and lab staff regarding application of varied techniques to produce the most technically advanced and functional O&P devices.
  • Contribute to the training of residents and students as assigned.
  • Perform all duties of the production assistant as needed.
