This role involves fabricating orthoses or prostheses as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with the department's scope of practice. The technician will create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, and perform cutout, grinding, and smoothing of plastic for devices. They will also contour, drill, and polish metal work, add closures, sew materials, and assist practitioners on a PRN basis. Additional duties include fitting patients with shoes or fabricating shoe lifts, tracking and ordering materials for inventory, managing equipment, and caring for infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age patients. The role requires interfacing with clinical and lab staff to produce advanced and functional O&P devices, contributing to the training of residents and students, and performing all duties of a production assistant as needed.
