About The Position

The Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking an engaged, energetic Orthopedic Surgeon to join the faculty within the Orthopedic Trauma Section. This faculty position will provide clinical care at UW Health University Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) and Unity Point Health – Meriter Hospital (dedicated Geriatric Hip Fracture Program), with additional opportunity to participate in the care of pediatric trauma patients at UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital. Clinical care will include call coverage, dedicated OR time to facilitate timely, daytime care of urgent/emergent injuries, as well as outpatient clinic in partnership with Orthopedic Trauma Advanced Practice Providers. Medical education is a core component of this position, including teaching and mentorship of residents within our robust Orthopedic Surgery Residency, as well as medical students and other learners. Further academic opportunity is available through participation in the section’s established clinical research portfolio, as well as the opportunity to develop an individual research program, if desired. Applicants who are interested in pursuing an academic career in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery will be considered for the titles of Assistant Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), Professor (CHS), Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Requirements

WI Medical license by the start date of the position.
Board-certified or board eligible through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery by the start date of the position.
Completion of a US Orthopedic Surgery residency and Orthopedic Trauma Association-Accredited Fellowship by the start date of the position
Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by the start date of the position.
MD or DO, or equivalent required
Continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.

Nice To Haves

Experience in caring for pediatric trauma patients
Experience providing clinical care in an academic medical center environment, and experience at a Level 1 Trauma Center within the last three years
Academic interest demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and scholarly research activity highly desired.
For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CT or CHS track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS or CT track.

Responsibilities

Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
