About The Position

The Orthopedic Technician provides professional and competent assistance to physicians in the clinic. Provides assistance with application and management in cast, splint, and brace with Residents. Gives instruction on proper care of casts, braces, etc to patients.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED plus one (1) year of direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff with orthopedic procedures and patient care.
• Apply, remove, and maintain casts, splints, braces, immobilizers, and other orthopedic devices as directed by the provider.
• Prepare patients and equipment for orthopedic procedures while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and comfort.
• Assist with cast application, cast removal, and cast care education.
• Apply and remove orthopedic dressings and assist with wound care as directed.
• Assist with fracture and injury management, including preparation for reductions and other orthopedic interventions.
• Apply and maintain traction equipment according to provider orders and established protocols.
• Provide crutch, walker, cane, and other durable medical equipment instruction to patients.
• Educate patients and families regarding cast, splint, brace, and orthopedic device care, including activity restrictions and warning signs that require medical attention.
• Perform other duties as needed.
