About The Position

Join The Munson Healthcare Orthopedic Institute Team! Munson Orthopedic Institute is seeking a PRN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) that will deliver high quality care to orthopedic patients. In this position, you will work with fellowship trained Munson Orthopedic Institute surgeons to care for patients in the OR, ambulatory, and inpatient setting. You will be part of a robust multi-subspecialty team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff. Hours may differ between OR time, clinic, and inpatient rounding. PRN coverage may be requested at various Munson locations throughout Northern Michigan, including Petoskey, Gaylord, Grayling and Charlevoix.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
  • Orthopedic experience is required
  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required

  • Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.

Responsibilities

  • Works within a robust multi-subspecialty team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff to promote, support and provide management of orthopedic medical care to patients.
  • Evaluates and reviews the plan of care at regularly scheduled office visits utilizing sound clinical judgment based on assessment of physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the clients.
  • Manages patient care in the ambulatory and inpatient settings, including new patient visits in the ambulatory setting and inpatient consultations, performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, ordering appropriate lab and radiographic studies, interpreting lab and x-ray results, performing in-office procedures, managing orthopedic medications, making treatment decisions, and determining appropriate follow up.
  • First assists the orthopedic surgeon in the operating room.
  • Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the electronic medical record in order to accurately reflect services in the patient record and to ensure appropriateness of billing.
  • Communicates with referring or primary care physicians, advanced practice providers, inpatient consulting providers regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Observes the Munson Healthcare Advance Practice Provider prescriptive authority guidelines.
  • Maintains knowledge of current medical trends and ongoing professional development in pertinent medical fields.
  • Meets department productivity requirements.
  • Recognizes and understands the need for full daily schedules.
  • Independently monitors own daily appointment schedule and works in conjunction with other staff members to fill open appointment times.
  • Call responsibilities are variable and depend upon the role within the group.
