About The Position

At Summit Orthopedics, the Orthopedic Clinical Assistant provides clinical support and performs administrative duties within a clinic or Orthopedic Urgent Care Walk-in setting. This role involves direct support to physicians and/or other providers, including patient rooming, obtaining medical history, preparing patients for evaluation, fitting and dispensing durable medical equipment, casting, splinting, and other procedures. The assistant communicates with patients and care team providers, manages patient records, facilitates follow-up care, and completes necessary paperwork. This is a full-time position, primarily supporting an Operative Arthritis Physician and Team, with a Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (subject to change). The primary location is the Eagan Clinic, with flexibility to float to other Summit campuses like Plymouth and Vadnais Heights, and potentially Summit outreach sites.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient flow, room patients and obtain and record medical histories and prepare patient for evaluation and/or treatment.
  • Prepare required instruments and equipment for examinations. Clean and stock exam/procedure rooms, including instruments and equipment, between patient appointments.
  • Assist with casting, splinting, suture and staple removal, fitting and dispensing of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as appropriate, and as directed by provider.
  • Provide standardized patient education instructions verbal or written.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and appointments for further evaluation, testing, as needed, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Refill prescriptions on behalf of ordering physician
  • Perform administrative duties, including manage patient charts to ensure accuracy and completion, sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab and x-ray and other related reports, and completing and sending necessary paperwork.
