About The Position
The Orthopedics Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital is a 22-bed unit caring for a variety of orthopedic patients and is Joint Commission Certified in total hip and total knee replacements. The hospital provides state-of-the-art orthopedic procedures in Kearney, Nebraska. As an Ortho Nurse, you will provide orthopedic post-operative care, build trust with patients and families, anticipate patient needs, observe patients closely, and listen carefully. You will work with the surgical and nursing teams to communicate patient details and address patients’ emotional and informational needs. You will help patients feel safe and relaxed after surgery, welcome new patients, ensure they have medication to manage post-operative pain, and inform patients and families about hospital care and care at home. The position is with CHI Health Good Samaritan, a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Nebraska.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Active RN license in Nebraska or a nurse license compact.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
Responsibilities
- Provide orthopedic post-operative care.
- Build trust with patients and families by anticipating patient needs, observing patients closely, and listening carefully.
- Communicate patient details with the surgical and nursing team.
- Attend to patients’ emotional and informational needs.
- Comfort patients who are nervous or confused after surgery and help them feel safe and relaxed.
- Welcome new patients and ensure they have medication to manage post-operative pain.
- Inform patients and families about care during their hospital stay and care at home.
