About The Position

The Ortho RN provides orthopedic post-operative care on the 22-bed Orthopedics Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. The unit cares for a variety of orthopedic patients and is Joint Commission Certified in total hip and total knee replacements. The nurse builds trust with patients and families by anticipating needs, observing patients closely, and listening carefully. The role involves working with the surgical and nursing teams, addressing patients’ emotional and informational needs, helping patients feel safe and comfortable after surgery, welcoming new patients, ensuring they have medication to manage post-operative pain, and explaining hospital care and home care to patients and families. CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center offering an advanced level trauma center and a range of other services, including cardiac care, neonatal intensive care, cancer care, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and mental health services. The posting offers eligible new hires up to a $13,500 sign-on bonus and up to $10,000 in educational assistance.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Active RN license in Nebraska or a nurse license compact.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

Provide orthopedic post-operative care to patients.
Anticipate patient needs, observe patients closely, and listen carefully to build trust with patients and families.
Work with the surgical and nursing teams to communicate patient details and address patients’ emotional and informational needs.
Comfort patients who are nervous or confused after surgery and help them feel safe and relaxed during recovery.
Welcome new patients and ensure they have medication needed to manage post-operative pain.
Inform patients and families about care at the hospital and care at home.
