About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Ornamental Landscape Technician to maintain and enhance the ornamental garden beds across a military housing community. This role is essential in preserving the aesthetic and functional value of landscaped areas, ensuring they remain well-kept and free of invasive species. The technician will perform bi-weekly maintenance of approximately residential front beds and neighborhood feature beds.

Requirements

  • Employee must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws
  • Experience in landscape maintenance, horticulture, or groundskeeping.
  • Familiarity with ornamental plant care and weed control.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including cold climates.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body in order to be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance;
  • Be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Alaska Commercial Pesticide License is a plus but not required for all crew members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bi-weekly maintenance of ornamental beds, including weeding, pruning, deadheading, and fall cutbacks.
  • Apply both chemical and mechanical weed control methods as necessary.
  • Conduct debris removal and maintain overall landscape cleanliness.
  • Ensure pest control and mitigation of invasive plant species.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of Alaskan native and ornamental plant species.
