About The Position

TheraPeds Partners is hiring a school-based Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) for the 2026–2027 school year in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a school-based opportunity with guaranteed hours, designated documentation and planning time, a manageable caseload, and support from both TheraPeds and the school district. You'll work with students who are blind or visually impaired to develop the skills they need to travel safely, confidently, and independently within their school and community environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Orientation & Mobility or Visual Related Field
  • Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential through ACVREP or other credential accepted for the assignment
  • Active or eligible for any New Hampshire credential or certification required for school-based O&M services
  • Experience working with children who are blind or visually impaired
  • Knowledge of IEPs, evaluations, transition planning, and special education services
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Good organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to travel with and safely instruct students across a variety of school and community environments
  • Ability to complete required background clearances

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual O&M instruction based on student needs and IEP goals
  • Conduct O&M assessments and reevaluations
  • Develop and implement individualized O&M goals and service plans
  • Teach safe and independent travel skills across school, home, and community environments as appropriate
  • Provide instruction in spatial awareness, orientation, sensory efficiency, environmental concepts, and mobility techniques
  • Teach and support appropriate use of the long cane and other mobility tools
  • Address street crossings, public transportation, community travel, and transition-related mobility skills as appropriate
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on individual needs
  • Complete evaluations, progress reports, service documentation, and IEP-related records
  • Participate in IEP, eligibility, transition, and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Collaborate with families, TVIs, teachers, therapists, special education staff, and other school professionals
  • Provide consultation and recommendations regarding accessibility, environmental modifications, and student safety
