About The Position

AIM invites you to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to empowering visually impaired students with orientation and safe travel skills. This role involves providing individualized instruction, crafting lesson plans, consulting with vision staff, communicating with parents, and making recommendations for student goals. The specialist will also train students on techniques for eccentric viewing and the use of low vision devices, empower them to make safe travel decisions, and collaborate on behavioral goals. Participation in staff meetings is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Valid Type 10 Certificate in Blind and Partially Seeing with O&M Endorsement OR AER Certification.
  • Valid TX Driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Expertise in orientation and travel skills from preschool to high school, covering adapted mobility devices, long cane usage, and public transportation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse staff.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to travel district-wide and adapt to diverse situations in the school environment.

Responsibilities
