About The Position

Aurora of CNY, an affiliate of Liberty Resources, is seeking a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for its Blind Rehabilitation Services Program. The organization’s mission is to promote independence, opportunity, and full access for individuals of all ages with vision or hearing loss. It emphasizes service, excellence, responsibility, inclusion, belonging, staff support, and high-quality, integrated, community-based services. The specialist assists consumers who are eligible for and need orientation and mobility services, providing direct services to assigned consumers who are legally blind or visually impaired. The work is intended to meet agency goals and support consumers’ safety, independence, functioning, potential, and well-being.

Requirements

A master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree with O&M Certification from an AER-approved university program, and two to three years of experience.
AER Certification in Orientation and Mobility.
A valid New York State driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Work directly with consumers to connect them with services and adaptive equipment that maximize functioning, potential, well-being, and independence.
Conduct ongoing assessments to identify consumers’ strengths and barriers and establish goals affecting safety and independence.
Coordinate and collaborate with providers and support services for each consumer, including developing a comprehensive Care Plan and/or IEP.
Maintain relationships with community service providers to support consumers.
Complete required documentation, maintain case records, and submit statistical information on time and in accordance with program standards.
