About The Position

This internship contributes to developing in vitro models for intestinal diseases in companion animals or livestock. The intern will gain hands-on experience in organoid culture and assist in developing microphysiological systems models. Project work includes basic cell culture, immunofluorescence staining, cytokine analysis, and biomarker identification. The internship offers experience in in vitro assay development and opportunities to engage with scientists from the Translational Bioengineered Assays Team/Global Therapeutics at VMRD.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Veterinary Sciences, Animal Sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated passion for biological research and willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with cell culture, organoid isolation, PBMC isolation, or ILC isolation and development is preferred.
  • Experience developing in vitro assays for inflammatory bowel disease or developing new approach methodologies/microphysiological systems models with immune cells is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate and culture organoids, PBMCs, or local lymphocytes from target organs of livestock or companion animals.
  • Develop and optimize organoid culture conditions.
  • Perform assays and analyze experimental data.
