About The Position

St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Smiths Falls is seeking an Organist/Choir Director. The role involves leading choral and congregational singing, playing the organ for services, supporting a contemporary music group, and collaborating with the Incumbent on worship planning for weekly services, major festivals, ecumenical events, weddings, and funerals. This is a one-year renewable contract position with a three-month probationary period.

Requirements

Proficiency in various styles of music for organ.
Experience in choral music leadership.
Familiarity with the Christian tradition and Scriptures.
Commitment to supporting the Church in worship.

Nice To Haves

Piano/keyboard proficiency.
A broad range of musical knowledge and ability.
Knowledge of the Anglican liturgy.
Knowledge of the use of the Revised Common Lectionary.

Responsibilities

Lead choral and congregational singing.
Play the organ at congregational services.
Support the contemporary music group.
Work with the Incumbent to plan weekly worship, major religious festivals, ecumenical services, weddings, and funerals.
Coordinate the parish's music team, with an emphasis on music for Sunday worship, major festivals, and other liturgical events.
Consult with the Incumbent to plan and implement worship music, selecting pieces that reflect a variety of styles, genres, and instrumentation.
Coordinate the music leadership team to develop and expand the music ministry, including encouraging congregational singing and musical participation, with a focus on engaging children and youth.
Instruct and direct choir members and support the contemporary music group 'Beginnings'.
In conjunction with the Incumbent and Wardens, establish a music budget and oversee expenditures for music purchasing and necessary licensing.
Oversee the archiving of choral/organ music (music library).
Coordinate the maintenance and repair of all instruments.
