About The Position

This job responds to all calls for organs offered to the Multi-Organ Transplant Institute. Evaluates medical management of donors and verifies consent. Communicates with physicians and surgeons to obtain acceptance of organ, preserves organ, arranges transportation and transports organ. Completes all required administrative duties and maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements related to organ procurement and transplant.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years in a clinical or surgical setting
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to and experience working independently of direct supervision, setting priorities, and managing time.
  • Ability to and experience maintaining confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of technological resources, including email, internet, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours, on-call, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Clinical Organ Procurement experience
  • Eligibility for or current State Board of Nursing Licensure in the state of practice
  • American Board of Transplant Coordinators (ABTC) Certification as Clinical Transplant Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Responds to organ offer calls for the Multi-Organ Transplant Institute.
  • Communicates organ offers with appropriate parties and arrange donor organ recovery.
  • Participates in the recovery of cadaveric and living donor organs with transplant surgical staff.
  • Transports CAD donor organs, blood and tissue specimens.
  • Performs all organ listings, emergent listings, wait list status changes & recertifications, and removals as indicated by regulatory requirements and organ-specific transplant coordinators.
  • Responds to all inquiries for donor information, provide follow up information, and maintain all documentation needed to regulatory compliance and organ acquisition billing.
  • Maintains donor related information in transplant database, completes Kidney transplant TIEDI forms, and assists blood bank in maintaining inventory of stored donor blood vessels in compliance with UNOS requirements.
  • Maintains procurement supply levels, orders new supplies and insures discard of out-dated supplies.
  • Attends and participates in required team meetings.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
