About The Position

Under general supervision of medical and nursing staff, following policies, procedures and professional guidelines, this role is responsible for first assisting with open and endoscopic procedures. The position involves providing, assembling, and caring for organ procurement supplies, instruments, and equipment before, during, and after procedures. It also includes assisting with cleaning, restocking, and processing of the surgical suite, instruments, and equipment as needed. The role requires identifying and reporting situations requiring intervention to the RN or Clinician. Additionally, the position serves as a clinical preceptor for new OR scrub techs and OR technician students, acting as a resource person. The individual provides direct assistance to the transplant surgeon during organ procurement operations at donor hospitals, maintains direct contact with TGH OR staff to coordinate recipient activities and OR readiness, and assists with coordination duties with TGH lung and heart transplant coordinators. The role also involves maintaining direct contact and assisting with coordination activities with the organ procurement organization (OPO), arranging and assisting with coordination of transplant team transportation at the donor hospital, and assisting with transporting donor organs. The position is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Surgical Technologist Training program, Associates Degree or greater than 5 years work experience and CST-FA certification OR Completion of a Hospital Based Surgical Tech Program, 15 years of ST experience and maintains current CST-FA certification from AST or NCCT.
  • Ability to work in varied surgical settings.
  • Exposure to radioactive materials and chemicals.
  • Performance of tasks which involve exposure to blood and potentially infectious body fluids.

Responsibilities
