About The Position

The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) Outreach Specialist serves as a trusted resource for community members seeking access to health coverage and related support services. This position assists eligible individuals and families with enrollment, renewals, and ongoing navigation of the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), Healthy Kids, and health insurance options available through the Federal Marketplace. The Outreach Specialist provides education, outreach, and individualized assistance to diverse populations, including Native American communities, individuals experiencing homelessness, veterans, youth, and other underserved populations. This role requires frequent participation in community events, health fairs, outreach activities, and partner events throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of community outreach, community engagement, customer service, or related experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in an administrative, healthcare, social services, or office environment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including Native communities, BIPOC individuals, veterans, youth, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel locally.
  • Pass required background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community
  • Knowledge of Oregon Health Plan, Medicaid processes, and Federal Marketplace enrollment.
  • Knowledge of Tribal health programs, Indian Health Service, and Native American community resources.
  • Experience with healthcare enrollment, resource navigation, case management, or social services.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess clients for eligibility for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), Healthy Kids, and Federal Marketplace health insurance programs.
  • Assist clients in completing enrollment, renewal, and recertification applications.
  • Educate clients regarding available options and assist them in determining informed healthcare plan selections.
  • Verify and track OHP eligibility, enrollment status, and renewal dates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, application status, and case activity.
  • Represent NARA NW at community events, health fairs, cultural gatherings, school events, medical and houseless outreach activities, powwows, and community partner events.
  • Conduct outreach to identify, educate, and assist individuals who may qualify for health coverage and related services.
  • Collaborate with team members across multiple NARA NW locations to ensure continuity of services.
  • Participate in team meetings, virtual meetings, trainings, and program planning activities.
  • Promote positive relationships between NARA NW, community members, partner organizations, and internal departments.
