About The Position

The F/A-18 Ordnance Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, installation, maintenance, and handling of all aviation ordnance systems and armament equipment associated with the F/A-18 aircraft. This includes loading and unloading conventional weapons, missile systems, bomb racks, launchers, gun systems, and related support equipment. The Ordnance Mechanic ensures all armament systems are fully mission-capable, safe, and in compliance with Navy technical and safety standards to support flight operations and combat readiness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years previous experience as an Ordnance Technician.
  • Completion of NAMTGD AO “A” school or equivalent military/civilian Organizational Level maintenance courses of instruction.
  • Capable of operating support equipment & a working knowledge of the OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series.
  • Knowledge of naval maintenance publications, maintenance requirement card.
  • Ability to document maintenance utilizing the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Information System (NALCOMIS).
  • Experience performing system release and control checks, loading, arming, disarming and downloading of munitions.
  • Experience with structural repair utilizing sheet metal, fiberglass and composite materials.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of safety regulations governing explosives maintenance and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains, repairs and services aircraft weapon, electrical, pneumatic and airframe related structural components.
  • Performs hourly, calendar, phase and conditional inspections as required by maintenance requirement cards.
  • Troubleshoots ordnance system discrepancies down to the component level.
  • Use color-coded charts of aircraft plumbing.
  • Reads schematic diagrams & interpret applicable technical data.
  • Use and care of special tools, test equipment, precision measuring devices in the maintenance and repair of aircraft.
