About The Position

Orbital Welder is responsible for welding different metal components according to specifications, setting up welding units, and performing orbital fusion welds. This role involves working in various positions and environments, including tight spaces, and requires the ability to read blueprints and understand mechanical applications. The position also includes laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing piping systems, as well as mentoring apprentice-level personnel and adhering to safety regulations. A good attendance record is mandatory.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and favorable driving record required.
Must successfully complete pre-employment ten-year background check and drug screen.
Basic geometry and trigonometry math skills needed for pipefitting and Welding.
Must have personal hand tools for the trade.
Accuracy, detail-oriented, organized, reliable, responsible, safety awareness, accountability, ambition, and active listener.

Nice To Haves

OSHA 10 preferred.
Welding Certificates desired (AMI Certification).

Responsibilities

Weld together different metal components, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, oral instructions.
Set up welding unit and connect cables from welding unit to obtain proper amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
Weld Pipe or Metals in 6G, flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions in a shop or field welds in tight areas.
Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
Operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding.
Record all information on the welding log.
Perform Orbital fusion welds Per QA/QC, Brycon, and Customer specifications.
Determine the proper tungsten electrode for application.
Determine the proper shielding gas to be used for different types of welding procedures.
Follow proper methods and techniques for storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
Layout, fabricate, assemble, and install piping systems.
Study blueprints, isometric drawings, and construction plans for pipe systems, supports, and related equipment.
Install, inspect, and test systems.
Use hand or power tools to drill holes in structures, such as walls and decks, to allow for pipe passage.
Select pipe types, sizes, and quantities required for a pipefitting project.
Read, understand, and draw isometric/shop drawings for fabrication.
Comply with relevant codes and regulatory standards.
Mentoring apprentice-level pipefitters, welders, and helpers.
Communicate clearly verbally, digitally, and in writing.
Follow all jobsite safety rules and regulations.
Maintain a good attendance record.
