About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Orbital GTAW tube welder to join our team who is capable of welding on critical spacecraft thin-walled Inconel, Titanium and Stainless-Steel tubes. The ideal candidate will possess both welding expertise and engineering knowledge to work on specialized space parts and hardware. This role is crucial in ensuring the structural integrity and precision of components designed for space missions. This role is posted at multiple levels of experience.

Requirements

  • Operator will be required to achieve defect-free X-ray quality welds working to AWS D17.1 specifications.
  • Technical training or certification in welding preferred. No degree is also applicable with years of experience.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of orbital welding experience, with a focus on aerospace or space industry components.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  • Welding materials commonly used in aerospace applications, such as Titanium Ti-6Al-4V, Aluminum 6061, 316L Stainless Steel, and Inconel Alloy 625.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Experience operating the AMI M217 and the Polysoude P4-4 orbital welding machines preferred.
  • Ability to develop orbital weld programs for thin wall tubes.
  • Working in a spacecraft building clean room environment.
  • Maintain clean and efficient workspace.
  • Experience in the use of tools for visual weld inspection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft office, Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to help design and test space components, ensuring they meet technical specifications and mission requirements.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine welding and fabrication requirements.
  • Utilize engineering principles to analyze and solve welding-related problems.
  • Operate and maintain orbital welding equipment ensuring they are in optimal condition.
  • Conduct visual inspections of welded joints to ensure they meet strict quality standards and compliance with space industry regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding and fabrication processes, efficiency, and quality.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
