About The Position

DMC Harper University Hospital seeks an Oral Surgery Assistant to support Oral Surgeons in performing procedures efficiently under physician and/or manager supervision. The assistant uses skills and judgment gained through schooling, certification, and/or on-the-job training to support procedures involving local and general anesthesia.

The role includes scrubbing for oral surgery procedures, handling instruments and materials, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and providing chair-side assistance. The assistant prepares equipment and supplies, maintains a clean and safe treatment room, removes dressings and sutures, performs point-of-care glucose testing as ordered, and conducts dental radiography in accordance with radiation health and safety practices. The position also provides clerical coverage, including answering phones and front desk support.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Dental Assistant, or at least three years of dental assisting experience and certification of completion of the Michigan Dental Assisting Radiography Program.
• BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Scrub for oral surgery procedures and handle surgical instruments and materials.
• Anticipate the Oral Surgeon’s needs and assist as directed for procedures using local and general anesthesia.
• Provide chair-side assistance, including draping patients, suctioning, retraction, sponging, and chinning.
• Prepare scheduled operative procedures by ensuring required equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready to use.
• Maintain a clean and safe treatment room.
• Remove dressings and sutures.
• Perform point-of-care glucose testing as ordered by a physician.
• Perform dental radiography while ensuring radiation health and safety, film exposure, and processing.
• Provide clerical coverage, including answering phones and front desk support.
