About The Position

Under the guidance of the Dental Director, the Oral Surgeon at Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center (HICHC) provides professional dental care through diagnosing and treating patients during scheduled and unscheduled visits. The role also includes educating non-dental clinical staff, engaging in public service, and performing administrative duties to support HICHC's mission and goals.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in the past five (5) years
  • Must have a desire to work with infants, children, adolescents, adults, and their families
  • Strong knowledge in diagnosing and treating oral diseases, general and preventive dentistry, and implant dentistry.
  • Skilled in administering various types of sedation and performing oral surgeries for both adults and children.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Commitment to HICHC's mission of accessible, culturally sensitive care.
  • Ability to maintain records, follow instructions, motivate patients, and continuously learn and grow in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems to HICHC dental patients as they occur in addition to regularly scheduled appointments.
  • Performs dental procedures compatible with the facility's operating capability, equipment and privileges granted.
  • Performs preoperative and postoperative care
