About The Position
The Oral Surgery Assistant performs a variety of technical duties to assist OMFS surgeons in the examination and treatment of patients. Performs related duties involved in the care and maintenance of dental instruments, equipment and supplies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED/Equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
Responsibilities
- Assist with Oral and Maxillofacial surgical procedures.
- Perform radiographs and support care coordination in the diagnostic dental lab.
- Clean, sterilize, and assemble instruments, supplies, and equipment required for procedures.
- Handle surgical instruments properly and apply clean and sterile techniques.
- Anticipate surgeon needs through proper equipment setup and instrument passing.
- Take and record patient vital signs.
- Recognize abnormal vital sign variances and communicate findings to the RN or provider.
- Set up and assist with pre-operative and post-operative examinations.
- Assist with suture removal procedures.
- Clean and sterilize instruments according to infection prevention standards.
- Prepare patients for X-ray or ICAT imaging procedures.
- Perform digital imaging as ordered by the provider or according to protocol.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation.
