About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training. As an Oracle/Postgres Database Administrator with AMERICAN SYSTEMS, you will provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for Oracle and PostgreSQL in both a traditional on-premise VMware environment and an AWS Cloud environment. You will manage and provide life cycle support for Oracle/PostgreSQL databases for a collaborative engineering tools environment. This role involves implementing database conversions for new release requirements, evaluating database management technology, investigating problems and inefficiencies, and determining the impact of new software on system operations. You will analyze storage consumption, access times, read/write frequencies, and issues encountered by users. Additionally, you will evaluate alternatives, initiate corrective actions for data recovery, administer daily database operations and maintenance, and ensure efficient data collection, storage, and processing. You will also run utility routines, investigate performance declines, develop security procedures, recommend methods for rapid data access, analyze archived data usage, and assist programmers/analysts with program development and implementation.

Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be able to work in Mechanicsburg, PA 1 time per week.
  • COMPTIA Security + required
  • 4+ years of overall professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for Oracle and PostgreSQL in a traditional on-premise VMware environment and an AWS Cloud environment.
  • Provide Oracle/PostgreSQL database management and life cycle support for a collaborative engineering tools environment.
  • Implement the conversion of existing databases to meet new release requirements.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of database management technology and investigates problems and inefficiencies in a well-established data base environment.
  • Determine the impact of new or revised software on system operations and applications.
  • Investigate factors such as amount of storage space consumed, access times, frequencies of reads and writes, and problems encountered by other application and systems programmers using the DBMS software.
  • Evaluate and determines alternatives, and initiates corrective action to recover/restore data and return system back to normal operations.
  • Administer day-to-day database operation and maintenance in an environment in which the system software is typically available from vendors and widely used.
  • Ensure the database efficiently collects, stores, and processes data.
  • Run utility routines/programs and investigate when reports indicate a decline in computer performance.
  • Develop and maintain security procedures to guard against unauthorized intrusion into databases.
  • Develop procedures and recommend methods to insure rapid access to all data.
  • Analyze use of archived data and develop ways to insure optimum use of existing systems.
  • Provide assistance to programmers/analysts in program development, testing, and implementation of modified programs.
