About The Position

AET Federal is seeking a Mid-Level Oracle DBA to join a four-person team supporting a federal agency's server-based applications, which run on SQL Server and Oracle databases across every business unit. The team has a Senior and a Mid-Level DBA for Oracle and the same pair for SQL Server. The Mid-Level Oracle DBA handles day-to-day Oracle Database operations and provides support for Microsoft Access databases. That covers ServiceNow tickets, change requests, database monitoring, RMAN backup and recovery, patching, maintenance, and production support. The role reports to the Senior Oracle DBA (Team Lead) and backs up that position.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with Oracle as the primary platform
  • Experience administering and supporting Oracle databases in production environments
  • Experience with SQL and PL/SQL
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle RMAN backup, restore, and recovery procedures
  • Experience monitoring nightly backups, troubleshooting backup failures, and validating database recoverability
  • Experience with Oracle database patching, maintenance, software installation, and upgrades
  • Experience with tablespace management, user administration, database security, and routine Oracle operations
  • Experience supporting failover and disaster recovery activities, including executing database recovery procedures
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft Access databases
  • Experience working tickets and change requests in ServiceNow or a comparable ITSM tool
  • Demonstrated experience with issue triage, production support, server maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate across teams, and communicate clearly with staff and management at all levels
  • Willing and able to pass a federal background investigation
  • Able to work 8 hours per day within 7:30 AM–6:00 PM ET, with occasional scheduled after-hours work
  • Willing to sign a letter of commitment for this proposal

Responsibilities

  • Run daily health checks on Oracle database environments, including database availability, RMAN backups, failed jobs, tablespace usage, alert logs, errors, and performance
  • Troubleshoot, set up, triage errors, and configure Oracle database environments
  • Manage ServiceNow requests from submission to closeout
  • Monitor database health, performance, storage, and capacity and respond proactively to potential issues
  • Troubleshoot database and application connectivity issues
  • Carry out assigned Requests for Change (RFCs), including implementation, validation, and backout steps
  • Apply Oracle database patches and security updates during scheduled maintenance windows
  • Perform routine database maintenance, including tablespace management, statistics maintenance, user administration, storage management, and database health checks
  • Support Oracle software installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance
  • Resolve ServiceNow tickets within the customer's operational SLAs
  • Administer and support Oracle databases and related applications
  • Support Microsoft Access databases and troubleshoot corruption, performance issues, linked tables, ODBC connections, and database connectivity
  • Perform user and role administration, access management, and database security tasks
  • Use SQL and PL/SQL to support database administration, troubleshooting, and application requirements
  • Assist users and application teams with database-related issues and configuration
  • Monitor and verify nightly Oracle RMAN backups and troubleshoot failed backup jobs
  • Perform RMAN restores and recovery testing to verify database recoverability
  • Support Oracle failover and disaster recovery activities
  • Execute DR runbooks under the direction of the Senior Oracle DBA
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and document recovery results and issues
  • Support database refreshes, restores, and other recovery activities as needed
  • Contribute to the weekly support activity report delivered to the customer's COR
  • Work closely with the Senior Oracle DBA, application teams, infrastructure staff, and other technical teams
  • Maintain database procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and operational runbooks
  • Stay available on Microsoft Teams during core hours
  • Cover for the Senior Oracle DBA as needed
