About The Position

The Oracle DBA Manager is the organization’s utmost senior hands-on Oracle database resource and primary Oracle DBA, responsible for daily administration, support, reliability, performance, security, backup/recovery, and lifecycle management of Oracle databases and Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS). This is not a primarily administrative management role; it is a hands-on senior technical role first, with supervisory responsibility for the Oracle DBA team and oversight of outside consultants. The role works alongside and collaborates with the Applications, Infrastructure, Security, and Networking teams within IT, and is responsible for disaster recovery planning, Oracle database and EBS upgrades, testing and installation of new software, security and recovery programs, and backup processes to prevent data loss. The role also supports Oracle Data Guard, cloning, Incorta, Oracle Cloud initiatives, other Oracle-based or database-backed business systems, and other systems as needed. The Oracle DBA Manager assesses company needs regarding data storage and access, creates and maintains database systems to meet those needs, oversees database uptime, diagnoses and repairs database issues, remediates vendor service requests, and leads work related to capacity planning, installation, configuration, design, monitoring, general database health and maintenance, performance tuning, and data integration and migration. As leader of the Oracle DBA team, the position provides day-to-day technical direction, mentoring, work prioritization, and appropriate separation/split of duties while remaining the primary escalation point and most senior hands-on practitioner.

  • Knowledge of database theory, design and query languages (SQL, PL/SQL)
  • Database languages: Strong working knowledge and proficiency of Oracle SQL required. Knowledge of other database languages, such as MySQL is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MCP server/client configurations and integrations.
  • Knowledge of RAG database models.
  • Operating systems: Strong working knowledge and proficiency of AIX and Linux operating systems required. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server is a plus.
  • Project management capabilities: project scheduling, time management, project risk remediation, and techniques to oversee database development and operations.

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Computer Science or related field from four-year college or university; along with six years of minimum experience with Oracle’s suite of products.
  • General working knowledge of various Relational Database systems, including installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with Unix AIX, Linux, and Windows environments.
  • Expertise in Data Warehousing, Oracle Parallel Server, and Web-based implementation.
  • Experience with backup/recovery requirements in the Oracle products, as well as performance tuning and database design.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise direct and indirect employees and outside consultants. Mentor and train direct reports as well as other IT team members.
  • Evaluates systems & data requirements. Meet with analysts, developers, and other personnel to determine specific database needs. Translate those requirements and needs back into the database systems.
  • Assist the Enterprise Application team in the design, implementation, and performance tuning of Oracle applications and other systems as needed.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the Oracle eBusiness Suite technology stack.
  • Ensures proper configuration of underlying OS environments in relation to database health.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Applications team to drive innovation on new and enhanced system functionality for Enterprise Business Suite Applications.
  • Ensures system availability of the Oracle E-Business Suite, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), ETQ Reliance, Incorta, and other databases.
  • Disaster recovery planning includes database & application performance monitoring and tuning, security, backups, and failover, including data recovery.
  • Provides hands-on support, leadership, and direction as the primary Oracle Database Administrator.
  • Develops database architectures, standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the security of key corporate data.
  • Develops backup, failover, and recovery procedures and guidelines that are compliant with NOW Health Group, Inc. security principles. Ensures all Oracle and related systems have proper backup procedures. Monitors these procedures to confirm their appropriate execution and completion.
  • Assists the Enterprise Applications Development team with the implementation, testing, and support of new system integrations, applications, and reports.
  • Manages all instances of the Oracle databases and applications, including, but not limited to, Production, test, development, DR, Patch, Sandbox, including the implementation, reorganization, backup and recovery, and cloning processes.
  • Conducts research and makes recommendations on database products, patches, services, protocols, and standards to improve the reliability and usability of the entire Oracle database and application server environment.
  • Administers Oracle EBS (Enterprise Business Suite) and Oracle Support for Service Requests.
  • Applies patches/fixes as needed into the DEVELOPMENT instance, requests functional users test in the TEST instance, and after the functional representative certifies fix, applies to the PRODUCTION instance servers as required.
  • Provides both functional and technical advice on related Oracle database issues to users, peers, and senior management.
  • Requires Security knowledge and expertise as relates to Oracle systems for day-to-day support as well as identifying opportunities to enhance overall security.
  • Monitors database performance and efficiency, troubleshoots database issues as they arise, and performs preventative maintenance.
  • Provides capacity planning and performance tuning using various methods and tools.
  • Highly Proficient in the use SQL, PL/SQL and SQL Loader.
  • Work with the Quality Department to maintain validation status for those systems that have been validated. Collaborate with Quality on the ECC (engineering change control) process.
  • Helps support the data extraction and loading processes for analytic and BI systems.
  • Helps manage Oracle Cloud systems operation & support on SaaS (software as a service, IaaS (infrastructure as a service) and PaaS (platform as a service) platforms. Interface, oversee, manage, audit service providers, and ensure reliable cloud database and application systems.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
