About The Position

Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for procedures. Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments. Takes call as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program
  • Surgical Technologist Certification (CST, NBSTSA) or Registered Surgical Technician
  • Current BCLS Certification
  • Call is required for this position with a 30-minute response time.
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual District-required and/or job-required educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Attends staff meetings monthly and/or reads and returns all meeting minutes (as per department/contract standards).
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Maintains employee/patient confidentiality.
  • Shows employment eligibility verification as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts professionally with patients and family, providing explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
  • Prepares the room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
  • Demonstrates competence in care of specimens.
  • Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgical procedures.
  • Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles).
  • Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments/procedures.
  • Checks all equipment/instruments needed prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning.
  • Sets up, scrubs, and prepares for procedures at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time.
  • Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after the last case.
  • Follows written procedures for steam sterilization.
  • Completes documentation within shift, meeting current standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
