OhioHealth’s OR/Surgery RN Residency helps registered nurses who are new to the operating room transition to intraoperative care by developing the knowledge, skills, professional presence, and experience needed to practice as an OhioHealth nurse. The centralized recruitment process supports candidates during application, interviewing, and hiring. After hire, the Nurse Residency Program combines central and track-specific learning experiences and extends beyond clinical orientation throughout the nurse’s first year, with support from experienced preceptors, subject matter experts, and small peer groups. The position provides general nursing care to patients and families across the health-illness continuum in diverse health care settings while collaborating with the health care team. The nurse is accountable for nursing practice as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Job duties emphasize safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization. The role has on-call requirements. Most care sites require the nurse to respond within 30 minutes, including travel to the facility, parking, walking in, changing into OR scrubs, and reporting to the charge nurse. Bone and Joint and Grove City are excluded from the 30-minute response requirement; at those locations, nurses are required to stay several hours beyond their assigned shift when on call.
