About The Position

Jefferson Health is hiring an operating room registered nurse for cardiothoracic surgery. The nurse provides patient- and family-centered care, using the nursing process to address each patient's physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs. The nurse develops individualized plans of care with patients and their designated care partners, respecting cultural beliefs and values. The role integrates evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient preferences, and cultural values to support optimal care. The nurse collaborates with patients, families, co-workers, and interprofessional teams; provides patient and care-partner education; follows nursing practices and protocols to minimize harm; and uses information technology and outcome data to support safe, effective care. The position also contributes to quality improvement, professional learning, precepting, and hospital and practice-setting committees.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Specialized Diploma.
Current RN license for Pennsylvania.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice and the ability to collaborate respectfully in care and care planning.
Cultural awareness and the ability to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Effective communication skills, including partnership-oriented communication and respectful delegation.
Ability to assess patients and injuries and implement a treatment plan.
Knowledge of education techniques and ability to educate patients and care partners about conditions, treatment, medications, and recovery.
Knowledge of medication administration and medications used to treat patients.
Knowledge of discharge needs and ability to collaborate on discharge planning and follow-up care.
Knowledge of patient assessment tools and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment.
Knowledge of health information and appropriate documentation, including medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, plans, procedures, tests, and results.
Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds; frequent to continuous standing and walking; role-related activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or completion of a BSN or appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire, is strongly preferred.
