About The Position

An Operating Room Registered Nurse at MercyOne provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves the population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. The role involves knowing, understanding, incorporating, and demonstrating the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. The nurse will scrub and circulate on cases independently, with minimal direction, and prepare for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating the needs of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other O.R. team members. A key responsibility is providing a safe environment for patients and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment. The role also includes collecting and analyzing data, assessing patients, and developing nursing diagnoses, as well as communicating effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and families. Maintaining knowledge of equipment set-up and function, initiating and directing room clean-up and turnover, and participating in the orientation and training of new personnel are also essential. The nurse will assist in maintaining physician's preference cards and other O.R. resource material, utilize computers for surgical documentation, disposition of specimens, and obtaining pertinent information, and participate in departmental Performance Improvement activities. Attending department meetings and in-services is required, along with other duties as assigned by the manager. Maintaining a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior is also crucial.

Requirements

Associate degree in nursing required.
Current Iowa RN license, (MercyOne Genesis - current Registered Nurse (RN) license in either Iowa or Illinois is required at the time of hire. A secondary RN license for the other state must be obtained within 12 months of the hire date.)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Operating Room experience preferred.
