About The Position

This position is for an Operating Room Assistant, full-time, day shift. The role involves assisting operating room personnel, patient transport, maintaining surgical areas and equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The assistant will also be involved in training new employees, cross-training to other areas, and meeting specific educational requirements for orthopedic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to and from surgery and PACU when requested, in a safe manner.
  • Assists Operating Room personnel in positioning patients.
  • Assists Operating Room personnel in setting up cases; Open sterile items to surgical field.
  • Cleans and maintains items and areas of surgery between cases, end of day, weekly schedules and monthly maintenance, decontamination of operating room and all removable equipment between cases.
  • Collects, segregates and disposes of all waste materials in all areas.
  • Maintains levels of scrub supplies and solutions, caps and shoe covers, cleaning supplies and solutions.
  • Removes and replaces all linen on patient beds and gurneys as necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains autoclaves every other week.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment used in meeting job responsibilities.
  • Develops a working familiarity of all precautions, use and disposal methods of all chemical used in the normal course of meeting job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review.
  • Ability to work all shifts; Flexibility of altering work schedules to meet department needs.
