About The Position

The Optometry Services Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of staff members and daily operations of the optometry services.

Requirements

  • Possesses proficiency in written and verbal communication, basic mathematics, computer applications, and technical systems frequently acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree program with a recognized major and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or A combination of relevant experience and completion of a high school diploma with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, or General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum overall score of 162.5, and healthcare-related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program. If an individual has completed a degree at a higher level than required by the role and had a stronger GPA in that program, they may provide proof of GPA from that degree in lieu of the high school diploma or associate’s degree.
  • Have a minimum of two years of leadership experience or five years of progressively greater responsibility or significant contributions to projects and initiatives that demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Have a minimum credit score of 650.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs, and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions, and other elements.
  • Job duties require the employee to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, their opinions, and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  • Responsible for the resolution of conflicts that may arise because of disagreements between employees, between employees and customers/clients, or with the public, other legal entities, or governmental authorities.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and prepares information in an effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles, or other documentation.
  • Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Regularly required to sit and type. The employee frequently is required to stand or walk; and occasionally squat, kneel, and reach above and below shoulder height to lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision to departmental staff, including selecting and building talent, performance management, formal coaching and counseling, communicating with staff, building a successful team, aligning team performance, providing and/or ensuring employees receive instruction/training, managing work of assigned team, assigning duties, providing daily guidance and supervision, monitoring staff performance, department staffing, mitigating and resolving issues preventing goal attainment, providing constant feedback to manager, ensuring employees are aware of and adhere to company workflows, procedures, and policies, correcting actions or behaviors outside of company policies and procedures, identifying trend offenses, reporting as necessary to the manager, recommending workflow and procedure changes, assisting manager in ensuring department expenses stay within budget, and maintaining compliance with all employees related reporting and tracking.
  • Responsible for facilitating efficient optometry patient flow by coordinating the front and back-office services throughout the operational hours, utilizing the dashboard and other metric tools to ensure patients flow through their visit in an efficient manner, including reducing wait times, ensuring appointment schedules are maximized and spread throughout the shift, ensuring that staff follow operational workflows related to scrubbing appointments in advance, registration, eligibility, vitals, no shows, referrals, and clinical procedures, ensuring that important medical tests are appropriately performed on patients, including testing for near and far acuity, depth perception, macula integrity, color perception and visual field tests, ensuring supplies, forms and equipment are ordered and in stock, administering the Annual Skills/Competency tests, and preparing and posting staff schedules at least one month in advance.
  • Through operational reports and staff feedback, identifies opportunities, makes recommendations to Manager, and implements strategies for improving customer service, patient throughput and patient flow.
  • Responsible for ensuring patient information is collected, verified, updated and financial options reviewed and offered to patients during the registration process, including ensuring insurance eligibility verification is completed through appropriate verification source.
  • Responsible for facilitating efficient optical patient flow and sales services throughout the operational hours, ensuring ordering of eyeglasses from the correct lab in a timely manner and proper dispensing of eyeglasses to patients, overseeing frame inventory, selection, and ordering, utilizing the E.H.R. and optometry software to properly track and document activity, ensuring frame boards are properly stocked, displayed, and maintained, ensuring fees are collected from patients and documented for vision supplies, and establishing effective patient recall systems for annual exams, patient pick-ups, etc.
  • Responsible for conducting inspections of work areas and exam rooms to ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission and/or accrediting bodies, regulatory agencies, and infection control guidelines.
  • Responsible for handling patient complaints, assisting the patient and developing solutions to problems, and collaborating with other department supervisors when needed to resolve patient issues.
  • Responsible for adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing that regular attendance is considered an essential function of all FHCN positions. Absenteeism is not being at work or failing to attend a paid workshop, training, or event unless the absence is protected by law.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
