About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an Optometrist to work under the direction of the Medical Director. The Optometrist will provide patients with specialty services, ensuring comprehensive eye care within a community health setting. FHCSD is dedicated to providing caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved persons. Operating over 90 sites across San Diego County, FHCSD is one of the largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country, serving over 227,000 patients annually.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Board certified in area of specialty.
  • Must possess current unrestricted Physician and Surgeon license to practice in the State of California, if applicable.
  • 1 year experience working with underserved, low-income persons, or homeless persons preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) capabilities strongly desired.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis.
  • Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and to comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, finalizing notes, clearing out personal pool, and participating in clinic pool.
  • Follows FHCSD policies and procedures, including cooperating with the timely submission of credentialing and licensing paperwork; maintaining CME units based on the requirements of the specifying Board; attending all mandatory meetings; minimizing incident reports; using resources efficiently and practicing medicine in a cost-effective manner.
  • Maintains FHCSD behavioral standards, including effective listening and communication skills and respectful interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Maintains a productivity expectation of 2.74 patients per hour.
  • Maintains satisfactory peer reviews: able to assess medical information including pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, etc, in order to facilitate health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Meets clinic site and organization needs in a reliable and flexible manner; prioritizes work and makes an effort to adhere to schedule.
  • Uses resources wisely and practices medicine in a cost effective manner.
  • Participates in administrative duties, including lab reports, charts, and medication refills reviewed and managed appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
