Diagnoses, manages, and treats conditions and diseases of the eye and visual system; works closely with Ophthalmologists as a team member. Examines eyes and the visual system, diagnoses chief complaints, prescribes corrective lenses, and provides treatment or recommendations to Ophthalmologists for surgical evaluation. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions, such as glaucoma. In addition to clinical responsibilities, serves as a Center Director responsible for strengthening the practice’s relationships with area eye care providers, especially optometrists, and enhancing the internal workings of the practice so patients and referring providers experience timely, coordinated, high-quality medical and surgical eye care. Represents the practice as a trusted medical and surgical referral-based eye care organization committed to patient-centered care, clinical collaboration, and service to the broader eye care community.
