About The Position

As an Optician Lead, you will contribute to the fulfillment of Atlantic Vision Partners’ mission statement by possessing exemplary patient/customer service skills, being highly motivated, energetic, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. In addition, they will be highly skilled at preparing and fitting glasses, filling prescriptions, helping patients/customers choose frames, adjusting and fitting finished glasses, processing orders with optical labs, and final inspection of orders.

  • Willingness to submit to a background check (drug screen for Ambulatory Surgery Centers only).

Nice To Haves

  • ABO certification and VA LDO preferred.
  • Previous optical experience is preferred.
  • Membership in the National Academy of Opticianry (NAO) is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Assists customers in choosing the most appropriate eyeglass frame, type of lenses, and lens features.
  • Measures customers accurately to make sure the glasses will fit properly.
  • Prepares orders for the ordering and fabrication of eyewear so the lab can prepare, grind, edge, and insert lenses into the frames.
  • Processes and submits eyewear orders accurately to the wholesale labs.
  • Inspects all finished eyewear to make sure the prescription has been filled correctly and there are no defects present, follows up with lab if necessary.
  • Dispenses finished glasses to the patient / customer, making sure that they fit, are comfortable, and that patient satisfaction has been achieved.
  • Repairs patient’s broken frames, or assist them with the selection of a new pair of glasses.
  • Adjusts frames for the patient / customer who has come in for realignment.
  • Inspects, cleans, and maintains the frame inventory on display in the optical department.
  • Transmits information on the computer/internet to obtain insurance company approval for billing and processing.
  • Applies press-on prisms; both standard and compound.
  • Hand edges glass, plastic and polycarbonate lenses when necessary.
  • Tints plastic lenses when necessary.
  • Mounts and re-mounts drilled rimless eyewear.
  • Performs daily receiving of optical goods from various vendors.
  • Prepares orders daily for dispensing optician.
  • Follows up with vendors regarding late orders and back orders and keeps patient apprised of order status.
  • Coordinates shipment of frames to labs for assembly by labs.
  • Prepares RTV goods for shipment and tracks credits due from each vendor.
  • Performs daily balancing of patient payments to receipts.
  • Reviews and manages time and attendance, including approving/denying requested PTO.
  • Assists the Optical Regional Manager in their duties as needed.
  • Communicates with upper management.
  • Completely familiar with all aspects of each job description in the department.
  • Supervises the staff of the department, coaches, and disciplines as necessary.
  • Staffing and training for the department.
  • Leadership, motivation, and goal setting for staff.
  • Monitors staff performance.
  • Maintains efficiency of the department.
  • Inventory management.
  • Optical pricing strategies.
  • Organization and process management.
  • Troubleshooting quality/ delivery problems.
  • Troubleshoots and solves problems in the department in a timely manner.
  • Openly support and consistently communicate the mission of the department and the whole organization.
  • Handles personnel issues that may arise amongst the staff.
  • Accept staff call-ins and or staff who will be late.
  • Serve as staff and patient advocate to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Interface with patients and their families to ensure care meets their expectations.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues throughout the change process: gives and welcomes feedback.
  • Performs as a team leader, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and maximizing positive workflow.
  • Able to be the first line of defense for patient complaints.
  • Strong knowledge of optics and the ability to learn new knowledge of changing technology.
  • Enforcing and following all the guidelines in the employee manual, including clothing attire, language, volume, cell phones, and behavior.
